Boot Time Application (BTA) is blocked at startup by a personal firewall
installed on the computer.
If you have firewall software installed on your computer it might block the
BTA at startup. A personal firewall typically blocks any applications that try
to access the network unless you explicitly have allowed them to do so. When an
application tries to access the Internet, you typically get an alert saying "Do you
wish to grant this application access to the Internet?". However at startup
there will be a Catch 22 condition where the BTA is launched but blocked by the
firewall before it can display the popup asking you if you wish to grant BTA
access.
The easiest way to get your firewall to grant MultiNetwork Manager is to
apply the profile "<Internet Only>". When your personal firewall
displays a pop up with a message saying something like "MultiNetwork
Manager Boot Time Application Service (GSBootTimeSrv.exe) is trying to access
the network. Do you want this program to access the network?", select
the checkbox "remember my answer" and click Yes to accept. Further, if
you get alerts regarding Profile Manager (ProgMgr.exe), Profile Center (ProfCenter.exe)
and Profile Creator (mnmwiz.exe) grant these programs access also.
You can also use the administrative features of your firewall software to
manually add the BTA to
the list of applications that are granted access (please see the documentation
from the firewall vendor). The file to be granted access is placed at:
C:\Program Files\GlobeSoft\MultiNetwork Manager\NTx\GSBootTimeSrv.exe
GPO
(Group Policy), machine policies are not applied until after a second reboot.
This can occur in mnm 6.02.0004 and earlier when connecting to a Windows
2000 DC. In these versions, mnm did not use the AD-compatible style to
create and/or save a new domain account. You can fix this by deleting your
existing domain component in mnm and resaving it after rebooting twice (i.e.,
when your machine policies are working).
You
can't use the PGPnet VPN software adapter together with mnm (TCP/IP support)
in Windows 2000.
If you are using PGP you
need to run the PGP "SetAdapter" utility (available from the Start
menu under PGP), to unbind all your network adapters from PGP. The PGP VPN adapter
does not work when switching TCP/IP settings or when you disable and enable
a real network adapters. You can verify this yourself by trying to enable and
disable your adapters when PGPnet is installed.
Trouble
when reinstalling mnm.
Some installed mnm files may be locked by the system when uninstalling. In
this case you must reboot your computer before reinstalling mnm. You should
receive a message from mnm about this problem. If you have any installation
trouble, uninstall mnm, reboot, and reinstall mnm. This often resolves the
problem.
I'm
using a VPN client and can't get it to work correctly with mnm.
mnm supports many of the VPN solutions on the market. If you have problems
using mnm together with your VPN, contact support@globesoft.com for more
information.
I
can't logon to the domain controller that I saved in mnm.
Please make sure that you
have followed the steps for how to add multiple Domain/Workgroup accounts,
Also. Windows 2000 will disable your domain account when you change to a new
domain or Workgroup from the Windows GUI (i.e., if it can reach the domain controller).
This can be avoided by using mnm to configure the new domain or Workgroup
accounts. If your account has been disabled, ask your domain administrator
to enable your account, or create a new domain account.
In NT and Windows 2000 (with some adapters) you can't change the IP address
on the computer if you want to be able to log on to the existing (saved) domain
account. If you need to change the IP for a saved domain account, make sure that
you can log on to the domain controller with the new IP (DHCP). If you can't log
on to the domain controller, ask your domain administrator to create a new
computer account. This is true whether you are using mnm or not.
I switched to new proxy settings. Why don't they work?
Before switching proxy settings you must close all your browser windows.
Error dialog boxes appear every time users try to switch Network mappings.
You probably already have an existing mapping to one or more drives that you
are trying to set. In the Profile Manager, select the Map Network Drives in the
left tree view. Select the Remove existing mapping if necessary check box
in the settings area.
If you are using WINS and you have switched IP settings you may need to
reboot for the WINS server to pick up the new mapping between your IP and
computer name.
Unable to create new TCP/IP settings.
You probably need to have the permissions or privileges. See the on-line help for further information.
